In this still-life painting class learn how to bring a sense of reality and atmosphere to your work. Over this 2 day weekend learn the fundamentals of tonal painting by observing light, tone and proportion. You will start with a monochrome and learn how to mix colours, and be taken through a series of exercises and demonstrations to build on skills.

LEARN TO DRAW AND PAINT PORTRAITS / TUES 7 MAY 2024 / FULL

This painting class is for students who want to learn how to paint portraits well.
In this class you will learn skills required to produce accurate and meaningful portraits through a series of exercises. Throughout the planned exercises, Marie works with each student at his/her own level, and works to progress each student’s ambitions. Students will benefit from doing tonal studies and colour mixing, and will cater for students who wish to improve their painting skills using oils.
This class is for students with prior experience in their chosen medium.

LANDSCAPE IN OILS / AUTUMN WORKSHOP / 2024

In this weekend landscape workshop discover how to create a mood in your paintings. Learn how to create the sensation of light, atmosphere and space through observing tone. This course and is suitable for continuing students who will gain greater confidence in using oils. Over this 8 week stage, you will learn to paint with oil paints through a range of exercises designed to teach you the fundamentals and gain confidence week by week. Exercises will continue so students will learn to observe light, tone and proportion to bring a sense of reality and atmosphere to their work.

PORTRAIT PAINTING IN OILS / WORKSHOP / 2024 TBC
This master class style workshop is for experienced oil painters who would like to learn portrait painting or refresh their skills. Students will learn techniques of portrait painting through studying proportion and how to paint features by observing tone. Students will be taken through a block-in exercise and finish with a study in oil.
Students will work from a model and learn the proportions of the head and facial structures, how to paint the features of the face by studying light and tone.
