I have a strong interest in observing the people and the world around me. My aim is to capture the essence of my subject, whether it's a person, landscape or still life: to create work that
resonates on a personal and an emotional level.
Growing up in the South Island of New Zealand my work reflects the memories of the landscape: the solitude, the dramatic seasonal change and a sense of foreboding. Recent work reflects on the subtle psychological effects after the Christchurch earthquakes. I record memories of the security of the daily domestic routine that we tend to take for granted.
