Marie’s work is instinctive and investigative, whether her subject is a landscape, a person or a still life; her intention is to catch a moment that tells a story or
to capture the soul of the subject. As a tonalist her work has a subdued, emotive resonance, she draws on everyday objects, situations and environments.

Her recent work includes a personal response to
the physical and psychological. Where her landscapes explore the sublime vastness of nature, its force and fluctuations, the calm before the storm. The broken wedding presents of her parents’ explore the impact
of loss after the Christchurch earthquakes. Her portraits capture the essence of her subjects’ character within that moment, a moment that will never be the same.

"In the future I would like to investigate and develop ideas around the theme of unease. I'm interested the appeal, the psychology behind it and why it's compelling"

Marie’s background is in the creative industry, she
has a Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication and studied painting at the Julian Ashton Art School. Marie holds a Post Graduate Diploma in painting at the National Art School, Sydney.
